1.2 thousand citizens of Georgia sought asylum in Sweden

According to the Swedish Migration Board, in 2018, 1,260 Georgian citizens claimed for asylum in Sweden.

Last year the Swedish authorities satisfied the claims of only five citizens of Georgia. This is less than 0.4% of the total number of Georgian applications.

In general, in the list of countries whose citizens in 2018 sought for asylum in Sweden, Georgia ranked fourth after Syria, Iraq, and Iran.

Last year, Sweden reviewed more than 35,000 asylum applications, 32% of which granted.

Georgian authorities have already tightened legislation on violators of the visa-free regime with the countries of the European Union. From now on, all costs associated with the readmission of the person will be borne by him/her. In addition, the surname change procedure was tightened.
