132 Ukrainian citizens detained recently on charges of illegal transporting irregular migrants in Greece
As stated by the official representative of the Directorate General for Consular Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vasylii Kirilich, 148 citizens of Ukraine were detained in Greece, 132 of them – on charges of illegal transporting of irregular migrants.
He also noted that 105 of them were sentenced to different terms of punishment, 43 are being investigated, or their case is at the stage of the pre-trial investigation. In total, out of 148 detainees 132 are accused of transporting irregular migrants.
The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also noted that 16 Ukrainian citizens were granted early release by decisions of the court in 2017, three more were released in 2018.
According to him, the legislation of Greece provides for up to 25 years of imprisonment for the transportation of irregular migrants.
