Georgia and Ukraine signed the Plan for the development of cooperation in the border area


On 26 April 2018, a working meeting of the delegations of the border agencies of Ukraine and Georgia was held under the leadership of the Chairman of the State Border Service of Ukraine Petro Tsygykal and the Chief of the Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia Teimuraz Kekelidze.

During the meeting, the heads of the border agencies signed the Protocol of the meeting and the Plan for the development of cooperation between the State Border Service of Ukraine and the Structural Units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia responsible for border security for 2019-2020.

The sides exchanged information on the general situation on the land and sea borders of Ukraine and Georgia, and discussed activities of border agencies in the context of combating human trafficking, irregular migration, terrorism, smuggling of drugs, weapons, weapons of mass destruction and other illegal offends.

During the meeting, the sides expressed readiness for further cooperation between the border agencies and discussed possible directions of such cooperation such as exchanging of experience in the areas of countering threats to border security, protecting the state border and the functioning of checkpoints, reorganizing and building a new model for protecting the maritime sector of the state border. This also applies to the organization of border control at international airports, development of cooperation between operational search units, including countering drug smuggling, exchange of experience in the sphere of risk analysis and the professional training of personnel.
