The government of the Republic of Moldova to establish interministerial committee on diaspora
The mechanism for coordination and implementation of the state policy on diaspora, migration and development in the Republic of Moldova was officially presented on 15 September 2017.
The document envisages the creation of an interministerial committee that will coordinate the elaboration and implementation of state policies in this field. The institution will have to formulate the strategic vision in the field of diaspora and migration in the medium and long term, validate development strategies and plans, and ensure the implementation of the actions provided by the national development programmes of the government. The committee will consist of one senior management representative from ministries and central administrative authorities, and its head will be Secretary General of the government.
The new diaspora policy coordination structure was developed on the basis of a research carried out with the support of the International Organization for Migration, mission to Moldova. The document aims at implementing the mechanism of integration of diaspora and migration into development strategies and plans.
According to the data provided by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, over 805,000 Moldovans are currently abroad.
