The State Migration Service of Ukraine to check the grounds for granting Ukrainian citizenship since 1991
The State Migration Service of Ukraine has started verification of all persons who received Ukrainian citizenship during Ukraine's independence, said the Head of the State Migration Service of Ukraine Maxim Sokolyuk.
According to Mr. Sokolyuk, there are cases when the courts have made decisions on Ukrainian citizenship grounded on fake certificates of residency in Ukraine prior to 1991 that were issued by officials of the State Migration Service of Ukraine.
"Work has begun on the full verification of the grounds for the acquisition of Ukrainian citizenship for all years of independence. Special attention will be paid to those who acquired citizenship based on newly-discovered birth certificates or based on court decisions on verification of residency in Ukraine prior to 1991," said Mr. Sokolyuk.
