Eastern Partnership: border management in focus at Riga meeting

The Latvian State Border Guard this week organised the 12th meeting of the Eastern Partnership (EaP) Integrated Border Management Panel, which brought together representatives from EU Member States, the European Commission, and EaP countries, as well as representatives from border guard and customs institutions.

The Chief of Latvias State Border Guard General Normunds Garbars welcomed the willingness of EaP partners to implement the highest standards of Integrated Border Management in their countries, and said he hoped for ever closer cooperation to combat trans-border crime and ensure national security.

Participants discussed issues related Integrated Border Management in the EaP, best practice in the implementation of this system in EU Member States, progress of various projects in the Eastern Partnership countries, and further joint activities to achieve established goals.
