Number of irregular migrants decreased in Azerbaijan

The number of cases of irregular immigration has decreased in Azerbaijan. This was stated by the Chairman of the Public Council at the State Migration Service of Azerbaijan Azer Allahveranov.

The list of countries of origin from where they came to Azerbaijan is as follows: Russia, Georgia, Turkey, Ukraine, and Iran. 74% of migrants came from the first two countries.

According to Allahveranov, during the reporting period, the State Migration Service (SMS) received about 32 thousand applications from foreigners and stateless persons to obtain a temporary residence permit. For January-September 2018, the figures were the same. Most applicants are from Turkey, Russia, Georgia, Iran, and Pakistan.

The highest priority in the migration policy of the country, according to Allahveranov, is the integration and adaptation of migrants.

The SMS organized free courses of Azerbaijani language for foreigners. To obtain a residence permit, a foreigner must pass an interview on the knowledge of history, socio-political system and culture of Azerbaijan.
