Romania and Moldova agreed on joint border patrols

The General Inspectorates of the Border Police within the Ministries of Internal Affairs of Romania and Moldova will carry out joint patrol activities along the state border. The Cabinet of Ministers approved the initiation of negotiations for the conclusion of a protocol in that respect today, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The activity of the joint patrol teams will significantly increase capacity to ensure security of the Moldovan Romanian state border. It will more effectively prevent cross border violations, in particular smuggling and illegal migration. Joint teams will operate on an area of 10 km from the border line on the territory of Romania and Moldova.

The authorities of Romania and Moldova have coordinated patrols on the Prutriver since 2012. Moldova also carries out the joint patrolling of the state border with Ukraine.
